Intervention (we open, they overcall)
If they overcall on our GF relay:
If the interfere on the ask:
(a0) relay is doubled:
- redouble: 1st step response and something in the suit (askers XX is an offer,
S1 natural, S2 is relay to go get to our normal responses
- pass: higher reponse and something in the suit. Now S1 is relay,
redouble would like to play.
- licit: same shape as wihout double and no length or strendth in the relay suit
(a1) the overcall the relay on step 1:
- double: penalty (natural bidding if we bid on)
- pass: would have bid this one (asker's double is penalty, S1 furtheri relay)
- bid: unchanged
(a2) the overcall the relay on step 2 (generally we can't penalize this one):
- pass: would have bid first step ("minuspass")
- double: would have bid this one
- bid: unchanged
(a3) on higher overcalls: everything is natural, double is penalty from both sides
They overcall on the response: Summary: double of S1 and S2 overcalls is penalty,
pass is relay and we get back the system. On S3 or higher overcalls on general
principles (penalty double in GF)
(b0) if the double a response:
- redouble: would play it
- pass: might play it depending on the asked hand. With strength oe length
in the suit he must redouble, otherise bid as nothing would have happened
- S1: relay
(b1) they overcall S1 on the response:
- pass: relay (asked hand's double: would play (natural bids if we don't pass),
the rest is as nothing would have happened
- double: penalty
- bid: natural
(b2) they overcall S1 on the response:
- pass: relay. Asked hand's double: would have bid this one, the rest is unchanged.
- double: penalty
- bid: natural
1♥ response splitted:
XX = 4+ ♥,
1♥ = 4+ ♠.
the rest is unchanged (1♠: GFR, etc.).
- X: 4+ ♠. Continuation is NAT. Responder's only forcing bid is cue bid.
- 1♠: 7-10, balanced shape, no 4M
- 1N: NAT
- 2m: F1
- 2♥: GI+, 4+ ♦
- 2♠: fit-jump (5♠-4♦, around 8-10)
- 2N: NAT
- 3♣: fit-jump
- 3♦: pre-emptive
- usual negatíve double
- 2♣♦♥: F1
- 2N: NAT
- fit-jumps

not by a passed hand |
- X: takeout. Can play 2N when does not have 4-4 majors. Opener may jump to 4M only
with a 5-card major (that is, almost never).
- 2♦ = ♥. Opener counts with a weak two.
Responder bids again with a game try.
- 2♥ = ♠
- 2♠: GI+, 4+ ♦
- 2N: NAT, but promises some ♦, otherwise would pass
- 3♣: 6+ ♦, GI+
- 3♦: pre-emptive
- 3M: fit-jump (5M-5♦?)
- Rubensohl! (not from a passed hand)

When both their suits are known then "comb":
- their cheaper suit is competitive or GF bid in the lower of the other 2 suits
- their higher biddable suit is competitive or GF bid in the higher of the other 2 suits
- bid of the other two suits is natural, and exactly game try
- double of a CB or 2N: wants to penalize them (you must not start this with a pass, because
that will mean something else, see below!)
- pass, then double: negative, 4+ in the unbid (and unpromised) suit, but could not bid it, game try+
This works against 2N showing ♣+♥,
and against a cue bid when it shows majors (Michael's)
Against Michael's our 3M bids can be SPL with both minors.
A little bit oddly but can work against a Ghestem cuebid too.
(which is ♣♠), where we have many bids
(2♥ can be NAT competitive, 2♠
= competitive or GF ♦,
3♣ = competitive or GF ♥,
3♥ game try).
Partly works vs 1♦-(3♣) Ghestem
(showing both majors). Here double = game try ♣,
3♦ = game try (good competitive), 3♥ = GF ♣,
3♠ = GF ♦.

- vs double
- pass: 3-4 ♥. Reopening XX would play it!
- XX: 3-card ♠. Same development as without the double.
- 1♠: 4-cards. We raise is with ♠,
all other bids are natural, NF and show ♥
- 1N: 2♠, 3-4♥.
Continuation, as without the double.
- Vs 1♠:
- double: 3-4 ♥
- 2♥: 6♦-4♥,
good 5♦-4♥
- vs 1N and 2m:
- double: takeout (4-3 major)
- 2♥: 4-4 majors, weak
- 3♥: 4-4 majors, strong
1M - (plain overcall) |

? |
- jump bid: offensive, (shaded) raise to this level with good side suit and 4+ support
- cue bid: game try or better hand, mostly 3-cards support
- jump cue bid: SPL
- 2N: (shaded) raise to at least 3, 4+ support, offensive, but has no good side suit
- jump taise to 3: pre-emptive/mixed raise: 4+ support, cca 0-8 dp.
- 4M: to play (can be relative strong without slam chance)
- new suit above 4M: natural, not a raise

This works vs 1M-(2N) showing both minors, and vs a cue bids when it is Ghestem (oM+♣).
Partly works vs 1M-(3♣) Ghestem (=oM+♦).
Here double = ♣ not GF, 3♦ = competitive v. GF M, 3oM = GF♣).
- pass: nothing special. The spaciality is that opener can't have a hand that
can penalize it from behind, thus 1x-(1N)-p-(p)-double can mean something else,
namely a shapely hand with 4-cards ♠
(or with 4-card ♥ after a 1♠ opening).
- double: 9+, any shape, forcing situation on any level, except when opener
bids in direct situation which shows a weak shapely hand
- suit: natural, weak (0-9)

weak One-suiter hand. Reopening XX: offers to play it, 2M (=5-4M), 2N,

here 3♥ = max. semistopper

which may be better to play from partner's side,

Doubles
Gudelines to our doubles, i.e. which ones are for takeout and which ones are penalty.
